— Rainer Maria Rilke
Writing is, at its heart, a journey inward. Each written word reveals who you are, who you’ve been, and who you may become. The way that you compose a sentence speaks to the questions that confuse you, the fears you face, and the moments of clarity or connection that have changed the way you see yourself.
Yet, while writing begins in solitude, it grows through community. By sharing our stories, we can transform isolated reflection into real belonging. At Write the World, we are grateful to provide a platform where so many journeys meet.
For your fourth annual People’s Choice Award, we invite you to reflect on how Write the World has shaped your story. Perhaps you gained new confidence after receving feedback, discovered a new kind of poetry, met a kindred spirit in another country, dove into a youth leadership role, or learned to see your own writing in a new light. Maybe your grades skyrocketed on writing assignments at school, or you pushed through college essay jitters with the help of Write the World’s Advisors. Tell us: Whether in small ways or large, how has Write the World made a difference in your life?
Here’s where it gets interesting: instead of just jotting down a straightforward response, get creative! You might write a letter to the friend who first commented on your piece, imagine Write the World as a character or setting in which an entire story unfolds, or craft a poem about the late-night glow of your laptop as you click “publish.” Try to capture the way you feel about your community here through imagery, sensory details, and literary techniques — the glittering fireworks of a Wednesday Words recognition, or that warm, honey-like feeling of a kind comment. Whichever genre you choose, show us the meaning that Write the World holds for you as we culminate another year in this vibrant and connected global community.
Bonus: Did you participate in the “Your Write the World Story” prompt earlier this year? Return to your response for inspiration as you develop this more robust competition submission. Or, read your peers' responses to ignite your own creativity!
