Open Call Applications - Western Balkans Internship Scheme for Empowerment (WISE)

The Western Balkans Internship Scheme for Empowerment - WISE, implemented by the Young Professionals Network (YPN) with the support of German Affairs Foreign Office, is an innovative initiative empowering 12 young professionals across 6 Western Balkan countries—Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia. For the first time, this internship scheme combines regional collaboration, skills development, and practical work experience to address youth unemployment, invest in human capital, and enhance cross-border mobility.

What Does the Scheme Aim to Achieve?

This groundbreaking initiative aims to foster regional cooperation and enhance professional development opportunities across the Western Balkans through building a generation of young professionals committed to innovation and collaboration.

Through three-month internships in 12 host entities such as businesses, NGOs, and intergovernmental organizations the internship scheme will enhance skills and employability, build cross-border networks, and advance EU Integration.

How Will the Scheme Work?

The internship scheme is structured to ensure meaningful experiences for participants and host organizations alike.

➢ Preparation and Recruitment

Young professionals aged 22–30 will be recruited through a transparent process, ensuring a balance of skills, experiences, and regional representation.

➢ Training and Orientation

Interns will participate in a four-day pre-internship training in Tirana, covering workplace ethics, intercultural communication, leadership, and practical guidance for adapting to host environments. A pre-assessment of participants’ skills will establish a baseline for measuring growth throughout the program.

➢ Placement and Support

Interns will be placed with host entities aligned to thematic areas. Stipends, travel allowances, and mentoring support ensure a seamless and enriching experience.

➢ Monitoring and Networking

Progress will be tracked through regular check-ins. A networking event mid internship will facilitate experience sharing and collaborative learning.

➢ Closure and Certification

Interns will receive formal certification and join an alumni network, sustaining connections and enhancing employability across regional and global markets.

Why Should YOU Participate?

✓ Host entities gain access to highly motivated and skilled young professionals, contributing to their operational goals and expanding their outreach in Western Balkans
